Arzuaga’s Rosé

VARIETY:

Tempranillo 100%

OUTPUT:

7700 0.75L bottles, 320 1.5L Magnum bottles, and 30 3L bottles. The vineyard whose Tempranillo grapes are used to produce this wine is 25 years old and is located in our estate La Planta, at 911 metres of altitude, right in the heart of the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero, in Quintanilla de Onésimo (Valladolid). Its unique clayey limestone soil over unbroken bedrock within one meter down the surface makes it a very special estate.

PRODUCTION:

The first harvesting of the year of Bodegas Arzuaga-Navarro’s Tempranillo grapes is destined to the production of this wine. This early harvest allows us to obtain many of the wine’s organoleptic characteristics the. All harvest is done manually so that the whole grape is taken to the cellar. After being rigorously selected, it is carefully pressed to extract the required colour. The entire process is carried out at a temperature not exceeding 12ºC, kept during the fermentation process, after which the wine is naturally decanted and bottled to retain its freshness and liveliness.

La Planta

Arzuaga's all-rounder wine

This wine is produced with Tinto Fino grapes that are over 20 years old. They all come from our estate La Planta, located in Quintanilla de Onésimo, right in the heart of Ribera del Duero, and lends it name to the wine. A clayey limestone soil over unbroken bedrock within one meter down the surface and an altitude of about 900 metres of altitude give La Planta wine its special features.

PRODUCTION AND AGEING:

Once the optimal maturation point is reached, the hand-picking process and the storage in 15kg crates ended, clusters are sorted on a table to be later de-stemmed and vatted in stainless steel tanks, where they undergo cold maceration and alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures between 22ºC and 24ºC. The ageing in French and American oak casks during a period of six months produce a mature and elegant fruity wine.

Arzuaga Crianza

Our Flagship Wine

The Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties with which this wine is produced are grown in the oldest area of La Planta estate. They are cultivated at 911 metres of altitude on clayey limestone soil over unbroken bedrock within one meter down the surface.

PRODUCTION AND AGEING:

Once the optimal maturation point is reached, clusters are harvested and stored in 15kg crates to be later sorted, de-stemmed and vatted in stainless steel tanks, where after a few days of cold maceration they undergo alcoholic fermentation at 27ºC. The ageing over a period of 16 months in 50 percent French oak and 50 percent American oak casks produces a fine and subtle wine.

Arzuaga Crianza

The essence of Ribera

For the most part, it is made with the Tinto Fino (95%), Merlot (3%) and Albillo (2%) varieties grown in the oldest vineyards of La Planta estate. This reserve wine is the result of a traditional and sustainable growing. A clayey limestone soil over unbroken bedrock within one meter down the surface at an altitude of 900 metres makes these vineyards unique.

PRODUCTION AND AGEING:

The selection of clusters is made in the vineyard itself. They are hand-picked at optimum maturity level and stored in 15kg crates to be sorted on a table and de-stemmed. Together with the rest, they are pumped into wooden tanks and kept cold for a few days before undergoing alcoholic fermentation at 29ºC. This wine is aged in casks made with French oak and a little bit of American oak.

Special Reserve

The expression of the terroir

This wine is made from centuries-old vineyards grown traditionally in clayey limestone soils. This set of characteristics results in low yields per hectare.

PRODUCTION AND AGEING:

A careful selection of clusters is carried out during the manual harvesting and the subsequent vatting without using any mechanical elements. Alcoholic fermentation is made in wooden casks and malolactic fermentation in new French oak casks.

Gran Reserva

The serenity of an old friend

The Arzuaga Gran Reserva is produced with grapes from old Tinto Fino vineyards, located on clayey limestone slopes with a yielding of around 2,000 kilos, and with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes from La Planta estate. The 2004 harvest is an historic vintage year, climatologically defined by a very hot cycle that resulted in a yielding well below normal. A wet autumn, a cold winter, scant rainfall in spring and a very dry summer, helped by light rainfall in late August, created a unique climatology.

PRODUCTION AND AGEING:

The production included harvesting in crates, sorting on table, de-stemming, vatting requiring little pumping, alcoholic fermentation in wooden casks and malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels. The ageing in casks was made over a period of 48 months with three rakings during such period.

Collection

Grapes from centuries-old, pre-phylloxera Ribera del Duero vineyards grown in soils with additional features (sandstone and alluvium complemented with limestone at high altitudes) create the best qualities to achieve spectacular results.

PRODUCTION:

When the grapes reached optimal maturity, they were harvested and meticulously selected by hand. Then they were brought to the cellar in crates weighing no more than 15kg, selected and vatted with their stem and then slightly treaded on a daily basis before starting the alcoholic fermentation process. Once the process was on, in addition to treading the grapes, the necessary pigeage was carried out. After 18 days in casks, it was re-introduced in 14 new French oak casks from different forests to achieve its characteristic aromatic complexity. The wine remained in casks from mid October 2010 until June 2012 and then it was bottled.

Gran Arzuaga

A great Ribera wine

This wine comes from an unprecedented assembly, a blend of Tempranillo and Albillo (from centuries-old vines grown in red clay soil and fine sands with small stones on the surface) and Cabernet Sauvignon (from our La Planta estate, with limy soils that barely afford the growing of grape vines). The two plots share a high altitude, around 900 metres. Minimum yields, almost meagre, and a very long growing cycle produce fully ripe fruit with a legendary balance.

PRODUCTION AND AGING:

After a great deal of work in the vineyard, extraordinary analytical parameters and an enviable health status, the only thing left was for nature to express itself in the cellar. The harvest arrives to the cellar in 14 kg crates; a last touch was made on the sorting table by the tank and then placed in casks. The Tinto Fino and Albillo were not de-stemmed and placed in an oak cask with a capacity of 5,743 litres. It was macerated for a few days at 16°C. This allowed a very regular alcoholic fermentation of up to 28°C. After being filled into casks and treaded on for a total of 17 days, it was stored in new fine-grained casks of French origin from the prestigious Châtillonais and Bertranges forests. Following malolactic fermentation, it was carefully aged on its fine lees for greater unctuosity and depth. Aging for 20 months produced a natural decantation that allowed non-stabilization without physical or chemical processes. Like the whole production process, the bottling was performed by gravity without clarifying or filtering, which maintained its structure and splendour as well as the finesse for which Bodegas ARZUAGA is highly reputed.

Arzuaga Organic Crianza

Made with organic grapes

The equilibrium of the traditional

VARIETIES:

Tinta del País
9.639 75 cl. Bourdeaux bottles 212 1,5 l. Magnum bottles.

This wine is made from organically grown grapes, therefore no herbicide or man-made synthesized matter is used. Vineyards are chosen which most represent Ribera del Duero, a land characterized by its clay-limestone to very calcareous soils, as well as gravel and sand and gravel and clay soils. Vineyards are located at an altitude of between 750 and 1000 metres. This wine treasures an album of memories that, when tasted, takes you to its place of origin.

PRODUCTION AND AGEING:

The winemaking process is loyal to the same desire of no intervention with which the vines it comes from were grown. The harvesting was done in three parts, as the different soils gradually reached aromatic maturity. Grapes were vatted and taken straight to the tanks without prior sorting on table (our confidence in the skilled hands of our vine growers ensured an extraordinary quality). Not de-stemming—despite the grapes having been cut from the vine— keeps the grapes alive. It was the cellar’s first storage: during the first days, grapes were lightly treaded on; on the seventh day, they began to ferment in a slow process that required no extra additions. As fermentation progressed, the cellar filled with wonderful aromas of ripe fruit. Light pumping helped our wonderful indigenous yeasts turn the must into a wine full of nuances and flavours. We complemented the process with pigeage, a practice forgotten by modern winemaking... (a big mistake, as it helps wine reach its maximum balance and roundness). High quality wines from vineyards with a horizon of their own.
